Walt Disney World: Drinking Around the World at EPCOT – A Guide to Success

Let’s just get this out the way first; you have to be 21 or older to do this. And it costs a BOMB to do right. And you WILL be plastered. BUT…. what a memory you will have. Of what you remember that is. This is NOT for the faint of heart, or the light weights.

What is Drinking Around the World?

This is an unofficial event you can do in EPCOT, where you get an alcoholic drink at each country around World Showcase. Most people start in Mexico and end in Canada, but either direction is fine. You have to have at least one alcoholic drink in each country to say you have done it properly. You WILL be asked for ID at every stall, so bring it with you, and keep it safe!

How much can it cost to Drink Around the World?

Prepare; this can cost you at least $120-$200 EACH PERSON. Yeah… Disney World is not cheap for anything. And when you’re going to 11 countries (12 including African Outpost, but theres no alcohol there as far as we know), with each having a drink costing at least about $12, it builds up quick. Some can cost more. A little cheat to this is to share some of the drinks with your partner… it still counts!

Guinness?

Yes, there is Guinness. We do love a bit of home. There’s some Guinness merchandise too. But… its in the UK pavilion…

So how do we do Drinking Around the World?

As said, this is a very unofficial activity in Walt Disney World. They don’t want to be seen glorifying excessive drinking, as you can imagine, so there is no official merchandise pertaining to this either. You can get some t shirts online, and it can be fun to ‘mark’ your t shirt off with each done, but there is nothing in the park specifically relating to it.

Literally all you need to do is find the alcoholic drink you like in each country, and enjoy.

How long does it take?

Second bit of advice; pace yourself. This is a lot of alcohol, and some of the countries have some seriously strong signature drinks. So you should take several hours. Don’t be rushing around and getting as much in as quick as possible. That shows a disrespect for the alcohol, and alcohol takes no prisoners!

Top tips to make sure you finish.

  1. Water, water, water. For every 2 alcoholic drinks, have one of water.
  2. Eat. Eating is not cheating. You NEED some stomach lining for all those different types of liquor. We opted for food in both USA and UK.
  3. Take your time. Go into pavilions, do some shopping. But be careful of buying things, alcohol can make your inhibitions go away!
  4. When you start to feel drunk, just try act a bit more sober. Remember there are kids and families everywhere, and you don’t want to be politely asked to vacate the premises.
  5. Avoid rides. Especially thrill rides. Churning all that drink in you will not go well.

What are the best drinks to get?

These change all the time, but there are some staples as well. Here’s what we’d generally pick in each country:

  • Mexico: Margaritas or Tequila Shot
  • Norway: Linie Aquavit Shot or Carlsberg Beer
  • China: Tsingtao Beer or Canto Loopy
  • Germany: Beer Float or Gluhwein
  • Italy: Limoncello Cocktail or Tipo Pils Draft
  • USA: Bud Light Beer or Whiskey Lemonade
  • Japan: Sake
  • Morocco: Mythos or Casa Beer, or Sangria.
  • France: Gran Marnier Grey Goose Slush (seriously, this is amazing) or Kronenbourg or wine/champagne
  • United Kingdom and Ireland: GUINNESS or a Pimms Cup. Try not to be offended by the drink titled Black and Tan…
  • Canada: Whatever beer they have (we had Megadeth A Tout Le Monde beer) or a Torontopilitan.
Canadas beers can change from time to time, we were lucky to get a Megadeth beer!

Whatever you do, don’t go on Mission: SPACE or Test Track, at least for an hour or two after doing this. You’ll probably fall asleep on Spaceship Earth. Maybe get back to the hotel for a bit of rest!
